What is your Name?

Matthew 10:29-31(message bible)"What's the price of a pet canary? Some loose change, right? And God cares what happens to it even more than you do. He pays even greater attention to you, down to the last detail—even numbering the hairs on your head! So don't be intimidated by all this bully talk. You're worth more than a million canaries.

God knows us better than we know ourselves down to the last hair on our head!

John 10:2 The sheep will listen to him. He calls his own sheep by their names and leads them out.

God knows our names!

Often I come across people who are so down on themselves. I know how they feel, yes I have been there. That is not the sway of this paragraphs point though. People do not have any respect for their name sake anymore. If you ask someone who they are one pops up and says I am doctor…, pastor…, teacher…etc. People get so puffed up about having a title to place before their name. Some who don’t have a college degree earned title step back and humbly say their name. You can see the wish in their eyes that they had some kind of title to feel more important. Talking with them they might even say things like "I need to go to college and get a degree in something." Why? So that they can have some kind of status in this status quo world we live in. No one wants to be a nobody.

What is it that drives us to better our God given names? We strive to be better than just plain Jane. We must be Doctor Sir Reverend Squire Theologian Jane. Why do we put so much emphasis on having titles. Is not who we are, as in who God made us to be enough? Just wondering. A title can not love others more. To love others as we do ourselves is all He asks of us isn't it?

Where do we get started thinking in this manor I wonder? We consider ourselves no names because we have not mastered things that others have mastered. Because we have not studied the same things as others have already studied. Because we have not done things that other people have done.

I am not against following ones dreams and doing what is in God’s plan. But I am against thinking you are all that just cause you have a title or Masters degree.

In Princess Diary when she finds out she is a princess her first reaction is?

“SHUT UP” She does not believe. Then she runs away!

Would we do the same? God knows our names because we are His. His as in all that that encompasses. We are King’s kids! We have a most wonderful title if we so chose to flaunt it. I don’t know about you but princess does not sound too bad to me.

But then we have to remember Jesus himself demanded no title. Not even Prince. People called him Jesus. Sure he made known to them who he was through scripture in a humble manner. But he never demanded anyone to bow down and seek him on graveling hands and knees. No Jesus was just fine with his Name. And thus so should we be!

My name is Tabitha Ruth. What is yours?
